Emeka Nwokolo of Nigeria defeated Jeovanis Barraza of Colombia on Sunday at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Manchester, New Hampshire, to win the vacant world super welterweight and WBA North American Boxing Association super welterweight titles.
The bout was the main event of the “Down & Dirty 10” series, which Reyes Boxing promoted in the United States. Despite Barraza’s boldness and effort, Nwokolo emerged victorious with judges’ scores of 120-108, 120-108, and 118-110, demonstrating his control and superiority.
Having won six straight fights, the 31-year-old son of Nigerian boxing icon Charles Nwokolo is going through a fantastic period in his career.
With this victory, he now has the UBO world title and the NABA regional belt in his collection, opening up even more noteworthy chances.
Barraza lost for the third time in a row after a protracted absence. He gave it his all, but he was no match for Nwokolo’s skill. At this point, the Nigerian has a 13–1 record with 11 knockouts and 1 loss. Barraza has a 23–4 record with 15 knockouts and 4 defeats.
The WBF International super welterweight title was won by Nwokolo on December 17, 2022, via TKO over Ramon Barajas. The American Boxing Federation Mid America super welterweight title was won on June 30, 2023, via unanimous decision over Donald Ward. The UBO International super welterweight title was won on January 20 of this year, via TKO over Clinton Chavez.
Nwokolo is firmly establishing himself as a dominant force in the super welterweight class with this most recent victory.
