Okechukwu lsiguzoro, the factional secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has urged fellow Igbos to direct their frustrations against Southeast governors and leaders rather than President Bola Tinubu over the region’s deteriorating security.
According to Ohanaeze, the underlying reason of instability in the zone is Nnamdi Kanu’s continuous imprisonment and refusal to be released from Department of State Services (DSS) custody. According to a statement signed by lsiguzoro on Sunday in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, South-East Governors and key Igbo leaders have failed to provide the necessary assurances to seek political remedies for Nnamdi Kanu’s release.
The statement emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation among South-East Governors and esteemed Igbo personalities such as Chief Emeka Anyaoku, Ebutu Ukiwe, Senator Ike Nwachukwu, and others in providing assurances to the Federal Government about Nnamdi Kanu’s future conduct after his release.
He claims that several South-East governors and Igbo elites have decided to take advantage of Nnamdi Kanu’s arrest for personal benefit, political bargaining, and the pursuit of political relevance.
“It is disheartening to note that certain Southeast Governors and Igbo leaders seem content to visit Nnamdi Kanu in the DSS facility, diminishing him to the status of a “monkey in the Zoo.” They appear to be more interested in seeing and photographing Kanu in incarceration than actively seeking political alternatives for his release.
“Ndigbo must hold Southeast Governors, Igbo Elders, National Assembly members, and Traditional Rulers responsibility for Nnamdi Kanu’s lengthy arrest, rather than blaming the Federal Government or President Bola Tinubu.
“The Federal Government is waiting for the Igbo community to take a united stand and make commitments to facilitate Nnamdi Kanu’s release.
