The Jigawa State Government has launched the 2024-2030 Agriculture Policy Document, which seeks to restructure the state’s agricultural economy and improve food security.
The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Hamisu Mohammed Gumel, signed a statement containing this information. Governor Namadi stressed that the new policy, which is part of the administration’s 12-point program, will serve as a strategic roadmap for transforming Jigawa into a hub of innovation, productivity, and shared prosperity.
He emphasized the vital necessity for enhanced irrigation infrastructure and the implementation of mechanization to achieve this change. “We felt there was a need to develop the agriculture policy to reflect the thinking we have about turning around the agricultural sector,” said Governor Namadi.
He also thanked the FCDO for their continuing assistance in many developmental areas in Jigawa State.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Saifullahi Umar, Technical Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture, stated that the evaluation is consistent with the administration’s agricultural development goals, which include creating opportunities and employment for the state’s largely young population. Dr. Umar emphasized Jigawa’s potential, citing its agrarian economy and population of approximately 8 million, including more than 3 million adolescents.
He stated that the state government sees agriculture as an important engine of economic transformation, internal income generation, and social development.
Dr Saifullah stated that the ultimate goal is to establish Jigawa as a hub for agro-industrial operations in Nigeria and West Africa.
